Rebecca's Story

Keen dancer Rebecca suffered severe head injuries following an accident when she was 15. Following time in intensive care, it became clear that the left side of her body had been severely affected in much the same way as someone who has suffered a stroke. Rebecca and her family receive ongoing support from WellChild Nurse Laura, who helped them through the stressful and at times frightening period during Rebecca's transition between hospital and the rehabilitation centre where Rebecca is now. Laura was able to make the complicated practical arrangements for Rebecca’s rehabilitation whilst alleviating the fears of the family and helping them to gain confidence in their ability to care for their daughter. Rebecca is beginning to walk with the aid of a frame and receives regular therapy to improve her strength and movement.
