WellChild Nurses - Jane Alvey

Jane is a WellChild Community Children’s Nurse and Discharge Co-ordinator working in Oxfordshire.  She has only been in post since September 2007 but is enjoying the challenge of working in a new area, setting up a service that will bring huge benefits to children with long term health conditions and their families.

She has many years experience working as a children’s nurse within both hospital and community settings in Wolverhampton, including working within a discharge co-ordinator team.  Through her experience she has gained a growing awareness of the huge pressures that affect families with children with complex health needs.  Families who are already under significant pressure coping with the day to day emotional, physical, and financial strains of caring for a child with long term health problems, need additional practical support when their child has hospital admissions. 

Her role enables her to help co-ordinate a child’s discharge, ensuring that all health, education and social services professionals are aware of the child and family’s new or revised needs and to problem solve any issues that arise.
