WellChild Nurses

WellChild Children's Nurses play a unique and vital role in the way that they help children, young people and their families. One of their key objectives is to get as many children as possible back home and to reduce the number of hospital re-admissions.
Our nurses work with other health professionals to ensure that the road back home is as smooth as possible. Many children will have spent months - or in some cases years - in hospital. They work closely with the families involved; training them in the use of special equipment and offering support and advice throughout the course of what is often a long and challenging process for everyone iinvolved.
Currently we have a team of 7 highly qualified and extremely committed WellChild Children's Nurses. It's an aspect of our work we're passionate about, and we aim to expand the network as funding becomes available.

"If it was not for the WellChild Nurse I don't know how we would have coped. Because of all the special care that my little girl needed it was so difficult to ask people to help. It was frightening enough for us when she needed oxygen or had problems swallowing. For a while we felt very alone but now with help from the WellChild Nurse, things are so much better and we thank her so much for just being there".
